General Information

The UK Ancestry visa is issued to Commonwealth citizens who would like to live and work in the UK for up to 5 years.

In order to apply, you must have a grandparent who was born in the UK.

The Ancestry visa can also be extended, depending on certain conditions.

Eligibility

You can apply for a UK Ancestry visa if you:

Are a Commonwealth citizen
Are applying from outside the UK
Have a grandparent who was born in the UK
Are able and planning to work in the UK
Are 17 or older
Have enough money (without help from public funds) to support and house yourself and any dependants

Requirements

In order to apply for this visa, you will be required to provide a number of documents. These may include:

A valid passport (your passport should have at least 6 months validity remaining and should have at least one blank page)
Bank statements to show sufficient funds
Tuberculosis test results (if applicable)
Proof of ancestry
Health surcharge - please note that additional health surcharge of £2000 must be paid to the National Health Service at the time of the application submission
