General Information

The Irish Intra-Company Transfer Permit facilitates the transfer of foreign nationals who work in senior management and key personnel positions to an Irish company.

This Irish company is connected to that person’s overseas employer.

This permit can be valid for a period of three to 24 months depending on the circumstances of the applicant.

Applications for it should be made 12 weeks before the start date of work in Ireland.

The Irish company branch, also known as the connected person, must apply for this permit.

Eligibility

The employer and applicant’s eligibility depends on the link between the Irish and the foreign employer, the job offer and the applicant’s skills, qualifications and experience.

Requirements

The general requirements for this type of permit include:

There must be a direct connection between the Irish and the foreign employer – one can be a subsidiary of the other or both can be subsidiaries of the same mother company in Ireland or overseas
The Irish employer must be registered in Ireland
At least 50% of the employees of the Irish company need to be EEA nationals. This requirement may be waived if the company is a start-up and is supported by Enterprise Ireland or IDA Ireland
The employee must have worked for the foreign employer for at least 6 months before the transfer in a senior management or key personnel role
The base annual salary (not including bonuses and allowances) must be the equivalent of at least €40,000 but payments in respect of health insurance and accommodation can be considered
